proverbio "Tutte le strade portano a Roma" - ALL ROADS LEAD TO ROME

Tutte le strade portano a Roma (Tutte 'e strade pórteno a Roma) 

C'è sempre un percorso che ci porta nel luogo desiderato -

Si può arrivare allo stesso risultato per vie diverse

Il proverbio trae origine dall'efficiente sistema di strade dell'antica Roma, su cui in buona parte si basa l'attuale sistema viario italiano.
Molte strade consolari partivano da Roma e quindi, se prese in senso contrario, "portavano a Roma". Le attuali strade statali contrassegnate con i numeri da 1 a 7 sono tutte strade consolari romane, Aurelia, Cassia, Flaminia, Salaria, Tiburtina, Casilina, Appia.

Successivamente, Roma è diventata la città santa del mondo cattolico, non solo centro dell’immenso impero romano ma anche residenza del papato. Questa espressione voleva anche sottolineare il fatto che i cammini dei pellegrinaggi, particolarmente numerosi nel passato, convergevano verso la città eterna, davanti alla tomba di S. Pietro. 

Fondata da Romolo e Remo secondo la leggenda, la città si sviluppò sui sette colli nei pressi delle rive del Tevere ed il re Servio Tullio vi costruì una prima cinta muraria fortificata che contava ben 23 porte.

Sotto l’influenza delle conquiste, Roma cominciò ad essere “invasa” dai popoli sottomessi e a sviluppare la sua ricca civiltà artistica e culturale in tutto il mondo occidentale. 

I tesori di questa capitale sono innumerevoli: Foro, Colosseo, pantheon, arco di Tito, di Settimio Severo, colonna Traiana, palazzi, rovine di molteplici monumenti, basilica di S. Pietro. Senza dimenticare il Vaticano. 

Tutta l’arte degli uomini, tutta la loro storia e tutti i popoli della terra sembravano convergere verso questo museo a cielo aperto. L’espressione significa oggi, arrivare allo stesso risultato per vie diverse.

Ths expression originated from the leading-roads of ancient Rome,  which in large part the current italian road system is based on . 

Many consular roads started from Rome and so, if taken in the opposite direction, "led to Rome." The current national roads marked with the numbers from 1 to 7 are all Roman roads, Aurelia, Cassia, Flaminia, Salaria, Tiburtina, Casilina, Appia.

Afterwards, Roma became the holy city of the Catholic world, not just the center of the immense Roman Empire but also the residence of the papacy. This expression also wanted to emphasize the fact that the paths of pilgrimages, especially numerous in the past, converged on the Eternal City, in front of the tomb of St. Peter.

Founded by Romulus and Remus, according to the legend, the city developed on the seven hills near the banks of the Tiber and the king Servius Tullius built fortified walls which counted as many as 23 ports. 
Under the influence of the achievements, Roma began to be "invaded" by the conquered peoples and developed its rich artistic and cultural civilization in the Western world.

The treasures of this capital city are countless: the Forum, Colosseum, Pantheon, Arch of Titus, Septimius Severus, Trajan's column, palaces, ruins of many monuments, St. Peter's Basilica. Not to mention the Vatican. 
The whole art of men, all their history and all peoples of the earth seemed to converge towards this open air museum. The expression means today, arriving at the same result by different routes.
